Inspire Mentoring is a unique social innovation project created by Innovate Communities that grew out of its work with young people in Ballymun and Finglas in Dublin. Its aim is to connect marginalised young people from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds with a professional who has volunteered to become a mentor.

Incremental “mini-deliverables” guide students from a basic problem description, through increasingly detailed specifications and design choices, to the final design and project report. Students and mentors are surveyed at the beginning and end of the program under an IRB-approved protocol.
This report provides insights on young people’s perspectives on mentoring in three areas: (1) Mentoring’s Connection to Aspirations and Outcomes; (2) The Value of Mentors; and (3) The Availability of Mentors . The report then offers recommendations to guide community, state, and national partners in their work to close the mentoring
