Methotrexate was used to induce abortions and is currently used to treat ectopic pregnancies (pregnancies that grow outside the uterus). Some brand names for methotrexate are: Otrexup®, Trexall®, Rheumatrex®, and Rasuvo®.
Methotrexate (MTX) is a folate antagonist with known teratogenicity including abor-tifacient effects that interfere with DNA synthesis. We want to discuss on which find-ings teratogenicity is based and which open questions still exist.
