The tuner does not like to run 100W FM on 10 meters, it starts to arc with a resonant antenna that is better than 2.5:1 (sans tuner) on the FM portion of the band. In general, all tuners have trouble with resonant mobile whip/vertical antennas with very low impedance.
I rate the MFJ-945E at three and a half stars, which this system shows as four. It's four-star in performance, but only two or three in physical quality. I had one in my pickup 20 years ago, so I bought another one to use portable with my new Yaesu FT-891. The old tuner worked fine, equal to the larger MFJ-949E, so I expected the same thing ...

No complaints and build quality seems fine. Right now, feeds homemade dipoles for 6, 17 and 12 and a trapped dipole for 10, 15 and 20. One note -- had trouble tuning an attic dipole, as my operating position was mere feet from the antenna (running 5 watts).

18 Δεκ 2008 · First switch the tuner so that it's is NOT being bypassed with that BPS switch. Set your transmitter for a low amount of power and set the tuner power switch to match the power level. Set the Transmitter and Antenna knobs so that the dash is pointing up toward 5 on each one.
My advice to you is to try and find antenna solutions that don’t require an antenna tuner, and then to add an automatic tuner to make adjustments for you when you are at the edge of the usable bandwidth.
