- Microsoft Account Security Alert Email - Is this real?
Security alert. We think that someone else might have accessed the Microsoft account pg*****@gmail.com. When this happens, we require you to verify your identity with a security challenge and then change your password the next time you sign in.
You'll know it's legitimate if it's from the Microsoft account team at account-security-noreply @accountprotection.microsoft.com. Using Sign-in activity, you can see when and where your account has been accessed—including successful sign-ins and security challenges—on the Recent activity page.
If there was an unusual sign-in attempt for your account, you'll get an email or text message. We'll send a message to all your alternate contact methods. To help protect your account, we'll need you to provide a security code from one of these contacts.
I need to verify my Hotmail address so my account would not be blocked in 48 hrs (by tomorrow 8am Sunday). How do I know this is a genuine email from Microsoft and not a scam, especially the sender has an address *** Email address is removed for privacy *** when I hovered over the name: Microsoft Account Team. Help please. Thanks <Windows 10>
If you get an email from Microsoft account team and the email address domain is @accountprotection.microsoft.com, it is safe to trust the message and open it. Microsoft uses this domain to send email notifications about your Microsoft account.
If you receive a phone call claiming to be from Microsoft, or see a pop-up window on your PC with a fake warning message and a phone number to call and get your “issue” fixed, it’s better to be safe and not click any links or provide any personal information. Never call a number provided in an error message.
