Any Gold Chest found outside of Underground Cabins in maps generated between versions 1.3.0.1 and 1.4.0.1 is a Mimic. Between these two updates, Gold Chests did not naturally spawn outside of Underground Cabins anymore.

But all maps have them eventually, even hex maps. Mimics are also often found inside of those caves. Let your team know to keep their eyes peeled for mimic-chests, it will count if someone else does them while you're at the other end of the map. You're looking for the blue level-three loot chests.
