25 Απρ 2018 · Humans with mitral valve disease undergo mitral valve replacement or repair. Studies are currently underway in dogs to insert prosthetic valves, or reduce the size of the leak. However, these are experimental only, and have had lots of complications, but show promise for the future.
What are the consequences of it? The earliest sign of a leaking mitral valve is normally a heart murmur. This is produced by the turbulent flow of the blood that goes backward through the leaking mitral valve into the left atrium. Dogs may develop a murmur from a leaking mitral valve as early as four to six years of age.
