Masjid al-Haram, also known as the Sacred Mosque or the Great Mosque of Mecca, is considered to be the most significant mosque in Islam. It encloses the vicinity of the Kaaba in Mecca , in the Mecca Province of Saudi Arabia .
Masjid al-Haram (Arabic: ٱَلْمَسْجِدُ ٱلْحَرَام , romanized: al-Masjid al-Ḥarām, lit. 'The Sacred Mosque'), [ 4 ] also known as the Sacred Mosque or the Great Mosque of Mecca , [ 5 ] is considered to be the most significant mosque in Islam.
The Masjid al-Haram is the only mosque that has no qibla direction for the worshippers pray facing the Ka'ba, situated in the central open courtyard. The mosque today covers an area of 356,800 square meters including the outdoor and indoor praying spaces and can accommodate up to 820,000 worshippers during the hajj period.
The Kaaba, sometimes referred to as al-Ka'ba al-Musharrafa, is a stone building at the center of Islam's most important mosque and holiest site, the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Kaaba is situated 330 metres southwest of Masjid al Haram Map.
