Mutual Telephone Company was formed in January of 1905 when 150 patrons gathered at Little River City Hall to organize an independent phone company. Prior to this, there had been telephone service in Little River for nearly fifteen years.
Mutual Telephone Company, a customer-owned cooperative, was one of several independent telephone companies that developed Kansas Cellular, which was acquired by Alltel in 1999.
