Metabolism of n-octane occurs at the terminal carbon atom to yield 1-octanol as the major biotransformation product in rat liver microsomes. It appears that omega-1 hydroxylation of n-octane does not occur as extensively as for shorter chain alkanes (eg n-heptane and n-hexane).
