3 Σεπ 2024 · • Oral naltrexone – For patients who choose oral naltrexone, our practice is to start oral naltrexone at 50 mg per day and monitor for side effects. However, to avoid side effects, some practitioners start at 25 mg and titrate after several days.
30 Μαΐ 2023 · Oral Dosage. Naltrexone is available as an oral tablet (50 mg), and the usual dose for alcohol treatment is 50 to 100 mg. Dosing should start at 25 mg orally for a single dose and be repeated in an hour if there are no withdrawal signs. Naltrexone can be given orally with or without food.
The treatment starts, at least 12 hours after the last alcoholic drink at varying initial doses up to 500 mg/day for 1–2 weeks, after which the dose may be adjusted between 125 and 500 mg/day (average 250 mg/day) based on the severity of adverse effect .
Although 50 mg of naltrexone is currently the FDA recommended daily dose for treating AUDs, evidence from an open-label, small-scale trial suggested that higher doses (up to 150 mg/day) may be effective in reducing alcohol consumption in patients with complicated conditions (Oslin et al., 1999).
