The new series of Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI- IW) on base 2016 =100 has been effective from September, 2020. These indices measures the relative changes in retail prices of fixed basket of goods and services consumed by industrial workers over a period of time.

The Labour Bureau has changed the base year of the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers from 2001 to 2016. The link factor for the new series (2016=100) to the old series (2001=100) is 2.88. The above table gives the values from September 2020 with base year as 2001, calculated by multiplying the new index number with the link factor.
In India, Consumer Price Indices are compiled for five different segments of population namely industrial workers, agricultural labourers, rural labourers, urban population and rural population. The first three indices are being compiled by Labour Bureau, Shimla and the last one by Central Statistical Organisation based at New Delhi.
The All-India CPI-IW increased by 0.7 point in Septermber 2024 and stood at 143.3 (one hundred forty three point three). Year-on-year inflation for September 2024 stood at 4.22% as compared to 4.72% in September 2023, an official release said.
