17 Δεκ 2021 · The Chukotka + tanker and the bulk carrier Golden Suek had 3 transit passages in one season. The ice class of vessels ranges from Arc 7 to vessels without ice strengthening. The first transit vessel, Tian En, entered the NSR on July 8, and the last one, Pugnax, on December 13, 2021.
March and April met the navigation on the NSR with the severe ice conditions in the Kara Sea. By the end of March, in most areas of the Kara Sea, the medium type of ice conditions changed to heavy, which forced the majority of ships to change their traditional route via the Kara Gate to an alternative one – along the Cape Zhelaniya.
18 Σεπ 2023 · According to Weathernews, the northern passage became navigable without entering the ice zone on August 2, 2021, and remained open for 88 days which was the longest-ever recorded at the time.
