Most should just work. Some NDS games on R4 require AP (Anti-Piracy) patches applied to it, eg Pokemon Black and White
There are no ds emulators on the 3ds; you can only play ds games using the native twl firm mode built into the 3ds for backwards compatibility. You have two options to do this: twilight menu and nds forwarder.
