27 Ιουν 2017 · So I have started making knives/hatchets with 1084 steel from New Jersey Steel Baron and I have heard stories of heat treating where the knife becomes so brittle that it can break before tempering it.
Our own blend of 1084 has been carefully adjusted so that forges and grinds easily, requires only the very basics of a simple heat treatment, and an ideal choice for makers both beginners and seasoned smiths alike.
25 Ιουν 2018 · Kevin Cashen’s Guide to 1080 & 1084 is highly recommended for anyone who wants to know what happens during forging and heat treating, and why each step is done the way it is. There are many knifemakers with a couple decades of experience that have something to learn from the video.
The 1084 Steel is a high carbon alloy, great for knife makers, it is advised for beginners, on of the most accessible steels for the heat process and it requires less soak time in heat.
30 Ιουλ 2016 · Posted August 1, 2016. Looking to get some 1075 or 1084 steel from Baron.. Been checking their website for a few weeks and been out of stock, sent a couple inquiries by e-mail as to when it will be in stock again but no reply back..
30 Ιαν 2022 · The 18 1.5 x .25 x 48 sticks of NJSB 1084 that I have left from the first batch that he had smelted is apparently a different steel than the current lots. The latest stuff tests out at .82 carbon with no vanadium according to the specs on the website.
