Designed by local architect W.C. Kruger, the New Mexico State Capitol features the state's distinctive New Mexico territorial style, which blends the neoclassical elements of most state capitols with regional indigenous, Spanish, Mexican influences.
Today's New Mexico State Capitol, known as the Roundhouse, is the only round capitol building in the country. It was built by Robert E. McKee with a design by W.C. Kruger that combined elements of New Mexico Territorial style, Pueblo adobe architecture and Greek Revival adaptations.
The New Mexico State Capitol (a.k.a. the Roundhouse), located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the seat of government of the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is unique as the only round state capitol in the United States.
Visitors. The State Capitol is located at the corner of Old Santa Fe Trail and Paseo de Peralta in Santa Fe. Visitors wishing to schedule a guided tour are encouraged to call (505) 986-4589 during regular business hours to make an appointment.
2 Νοε 2021 · In 1886 a new territorial capitol was built on the south side of the Santa Fe River but six years later a mysterious fire burned it to the ground. The building was four stories high, with rounded corners and topped by colossal bronze statues representing Liberty, Justice, Industry and Commerce.
