Lenses: The D40 only autofocuses with the latest AF-S lenses. If you already own or intend to use older-style AF lenses, like the perfectly good 70-300mm G , get a D50 instead. The D50 and D70 use any AF lens perfectly, while the D40 makes you focus the older lenses by hand.
4 Ιουν 2007 · To make a long story short, any Nikon lens that has the AF-S designation is fully compatible with the D40 because those lenses have the AF motor built into the lens. Any lens that is only AF but not AF-S can meter with the D40 but you need to focus manually.
Bottom line, the Nikon D40 is very responsive, good for wiggly kids and most sporting events.
