Over 80% of city government positions require you to take and pass a civil service exam. Standardized testing helps ensure the hiring and promotion processes are fair, competitive, and result in the City hiring the most qualified candidate for the job.
For exam related customer service or to check the status of an exam or list you can: Call us at 212-669-1357. Log into our Online Application System (OASys) and fill out the Contact Us form. E-mail DCAS. Our testing centers are located in every borough, you can find a testing center near you. Walk-ins are available during operating hours.

To apply for a civil service exam open during this application period, please apply online via the DCAS Online Application System (OASys) at www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs. Exam Alerts. DCAS Computer-based Testing and Application Centers (CTACs) have re-opened to the public.
Through OASys, aspiring and current City employees may apply for exams and pay for application fees online, obtain information on their scheduled test sessions and the results of their exams, and become eligible for merit-based civil service positions.
