The majority of Chinese SKSs in the U.S. were exported by Norinco, although Polytech sent some over too. These defense conglomerates were acquiring rifles from a variety of sources for the American market, but the most common source seems to be the Jianshe Arsenal with factory code 26.
Luckily for us, the Chinese actually labeled their T53s with the manufacture date so we can directly correlate S/N changes and see what they did and when they did it. With the Type 56 SKS, we don’t have a date stamp, but we can assume that they did similar things at similar times with their numbers systems.

28 Απρ 2016 · The serial numbers range from 1 into the 2000's. Note that there is no factory marking and the star off to the side. The Ghosts were built from 1956 to early 1957. What I read stated that these were the first SKSs produced using purely Chinese made parts. They had a serial number, no factory marking and the Tula star was gone.
18 Μαρ 2022 · I bought a Chinese (Chi-Com) SKS exported from Vietnam, that were used during the war. They sat in Canada for the 20 year import requirement, and it too was covered in cosmoline. Just one more to add to my military surplus collection.
3 Οκτ 2007 · I'm guessing the ones with chinese characters on the left of the receiver that do not say "MADE BY NORINCO" in English are probably military... Also, one of them has its rear sling swivel on the side rather than the bottom of the stock.
