Luckily for us, the Chinese actually labeled their T53s with the manufacture date so we can directly correlate S/N changes and see what they did and when they did it. With the Type 56 SKS, we don’t have a date stamp, but we can assume that they did similar things at similar times with their numbers systems.

These are arsenal stamps comprised of numbers in the middle, and with numbers in all three corners etc. There is NO defined indication as the the proper order of these numbers within the triangle, so we will NOT be classifying them based on an assumption.
Any logo like this on the left side of the receiver means that it’s Chinese, but identification is often made easier by the inclusion of Chinese characters or “Norinco” printed in English as well.
Romanian versions are a little different, but still easy to do a serial number search. You can check the last section of the serial number for a dash followed by four numerals, indicating the manufacture year. The Chinese Norinco SKS firearm involves adding the first digit to 1956.
5 Ιαν 2013 · the rule of thumb for chinese SKS is that if the serial number is 7 digits, the first digit is the amount of years since 1956, in your case 2, so your chinese SKS should be a 1958 production. obviously there is more to it but that is the basic gst of it that works on a large number of chinese SKS.
