Urine specific gravity (USG or UG) is the measure of the density of the urine solute compared to free water. The normal value varies slightly from lab to lab but is generally 1.003-1.030. USG values vary based on hydration and renal function. Higher values indicate that the urine is more concentrated with solute.
9 Οκτ 2024 · Normal urine appearance and fluid status are indicated by the normal range for urine specific gravity: 1.010–1.030. Note: A constant specific gravity level around 0.010 despite fluid intake (normal range, but not changing) is a sign of severe renal damage and renal failure.
Specific gravity: in absence of diuretics, may aid determination of intravascular volume. A specific gravity >1.010 (iso-osmotic) suggests that the kidney’s concentrating ability is preserved as in pre-renal AKI.
