When the county was erected, and for eighty years afterward, Northampton comprised all the territory within its present limits, and all of what is now embraced by Lehigh, Carbon, Monroe, Pike, Wayne and Susquehanna, and parts of Wyoming, Luzerne, Schuylkill, Bradford, and Columbia counties.
