great earthquake of February 27, 2010 (Fig. 1). The quake caused several hundred deaths and injuries and great destruction to property. Shortly thereafter, a destructive tsunami impacted coastal towns and villages in south-central Chile and the Juan Fern ndez Islands.
On the morning of 21 July 365 AD, an earthquake triggered a tsunami more than 100 feet (30 m) high, devastating Alexandria and the eastern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, killing thousands, and throwing ships nearly two miles inland.
It is the largest earthquake to hit Chile since the 1960 Valdivia earthquake. The earthquake triggered a tsunami which devastated several coastal towns in south-central Chile and damaged the port at Talcahuano.
30 Μαρ 2011 · On 27 February 2010, a magnitude M w = 8.8 earthquake occurred off the coast of Chile’s Maule region causing substantial damage and loss of life. Ancestral tsunami knowledge from the 1960 event combined with education and evacuation exercises prompted most coastal residents to spontaneously evacuate after the earthquake.
