Most of the information needed for recertification can be found on your county issued pistol / revolver license. You will need to have a New York State Driver License or Non-Driver Identification Card in order to process your recertification.
As of January 1, 2018, the NYPD License Division will only be accepting on-line applications for handgun licenses, rifle/shotgun permits, and renewals, at the "NYPD Permitting & Licensing" public portal.

In Suffolk County, all pistol license matters are processed by either the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office (for the five east end towns) or the Suffolk County Police Department (for the five west end towns.)
Most issues can be resolved by email, without an in-office visit. Please see the Contact Us page of this website for a list of appropriate email addresses and contact numbers. Since, January 2018, all firearm license applications, including renewals, must be submitted on-line.
New York requires registration of handguns. Long guns do not need to be registered. It is illegal to own an unregistered handgun. It costs $3 to register a firearm. The firearms are registered with the permit to purchase, the sale information, and weapons serial number are recorded.
