The application must be completely fi lled out and presented by you personally at the License Division. At the time you submit your application, you must furnish the items listed below that are applicable to you. You must submit original copies of certifi cates, licenses, etc.
Since, January 2018, all firearm license applications, including renewals, must be submitted on-line. If you require help completing your on-line application, please notify us by email and we will assist you as necessary.
If you have already been issued a license or permit by the NYPD License Division, and your license or permit is up for renewal, you will receive a letter with instructions for submitting an on-line renewal application.
The NYPD License Division is responsible for the application process, screening, and issuing of various types of handgun licenses, as well as rifle and shotgun permits. Sound amplification device permits are usually issued by the local precinct.
Under a recent change to New York State Law, people who have concealed carry permits are required to recertify their permit with the New York State Police every three years. No change has been made to the recertification requirements for premises restricted permits.
