Pursuant to 19 NYCRR 500, any fire that occurs on property under the jurisdiction of a college or university must be reported to the Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) within 24 hours of occurrence or discovery.

(a) Colleges and university shall report to OFPC on DOS form 1660 basic information relating to all fires that occur on property under the jurisdiction of a college or university. This report shall be submitted within 24 hours of the occurrence or discovery of the fire.
The Task Force’s recommendation consolidates the responsibility for private colleges and universities’ campus building inspections, outside of New York City, to the State’s Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC).
Those who train others in student campus fire safety must believe in the importance of fire safe behavior, have the necessary knowledge to communicate accurate fire safety information to students, and model fire safe behavior before the students in their care.
