Minimum Qualifications. Age: 21 (at the time of graduating from a 6-month academy) or older. Education: High school graduate or equivalent (GED) License: Have a valid California Driver’s License by date of hire. Record: No felony convictions or other convictions which would prevent carrying a gun.
Prerequisite: Admission into the Oakland Police Academy. The course provides understanding, explanation, and application of laws in modern society as they pertain to the role of a law enforcement officer.
The Oakland Police Department Basic Academy Training Mission is to prepare students mentally, morally, emotionally and physical to successfully complete the Field Training Officer (FTO) program.
