It starts by flashing yellow or red on the screen, followed by haptics and eventually audible beeping alerts. The haptic alerts are nice as they bring your attention back to the watch before an audible alert is sounded for everyone in your dive party to hear.

The source for this data is the Apple Watch hardware itself, not the Oceanic+ app. Meaning, the Apple Watch Ultra is recording and putting this data in Apple Health in the same manner as heart rate readings.
To prevent notifications interrupting your dive, we recommend turning off Item Safety Alerts while using the Oceanic+ app. You can turn off these notfications in the Find My app, Me settings, under Notifications.
