Mission San Juan Bautista is a Spanish mission in San Juan Bautista, San Benito County, California. Founded on June 24, 1797, by Fermín de Lasuén of the Franciscan order, the mission was the fifteenth of the Spanish missions established in present-day California.
San Juan Bautista has the only original Spanish Plaza remaining in California. The Old Mission San Juan Bautista has had an unbroken succession of pastors since its founding on June 24,1797. As part of the bicentennial celebrations, the original chapel (Guadalupe Chapel) has been restored along with the restoration of the actual mission well.

Fifteenth in the chain, Mission San Juan Bautista was founded by Father Lasuén on June 24 th, 1797; the feast day of John The Baptist, Patron Saint of the mission. Just as the mission has been preserved, so too has the charming city in which it stands.
Mission San Juan Bautista, named in honor of St. John the Baptist, was established on June 24,1797, by Father Fermín Lasuén, Franciscan missionary and successor to Father Junípero Serra. Known as the Mission of Music, it is the 15th and largest of the 21 California Missions.
