4 Case study design and methodology. This chapter aims to illustrate the methodological context of this research project. The first part covers some of the general aspects of case study research and case selection.
The most defining characteristics of case study is delimiting the object of the study: the case (Merriam, 2015) The goal is to understand one thing well: a person, a program, a group, or specific policy; examples: one playground, one band. Research question must be aligned/define the case/unit of analysis.
10 Νοε 2021 · This chapter addresses the peculiarities, characteristics, and major fallacies of single case research designs. A single case study research design is a collective term for an in-depth analysis of a small non-random sample. The focus on this design is on in-depth.
researchers are conducting single case research. To place these 38 studies into context, a search of single or comparative case studies (i.e. two cases), or articles emphasizing the use of single cases as a methodology, yielded 104 articles during this same time period. Further, several
The design process for case studies involves deciding whether the unit of analysis for the study will be an individual case (for example, a person or organization) or multiple cases. Stake (2005) identifies three types of case study: Intrinsic, to better understand a particular case.
Studies that use a single-case design (SCD) measure outcomes for cases (such as a child or family) repeatedly during multiple phases of a study to determine the success of an intervention .
