Based in Brooklyn, New York, One Story is an award-winning monthly literary publication with a unique twist: Each issue features one (and only one) story in a chapbook format.
ONE STORY publishes one great short story at a time. We bring people together through reading, writing, and learning about short fiction.
The list below arranges literary journals in order of how many times they’ve had a short story or special mention in the last eleven years in the Best American Short Stories (BASS). I award a certain number of points for the winners and a lesser number of points for every special mention.
10 Νοε 2017 · Lena Valencia, the managing editor of One Story and an experienced submitter, taught the Hit Submit class. Her daily material and forum responses exhibited a professional, encouraging tone. Hit Submit was a self-paced class.
24 Νοε 2021 · One Story. One Story is a non-profit publisher that has published over 200 writers since 2002. It’s one of the largest circulating literary magazines in the country with a readership over 15K. They pay $500 per piece. Poetry. Poetry pays $10/line with a minimum of $300/poem.

In 2019, One Story, Inc. began an educational fellowship for a writer whose work explores inhabiting a body of difference. In 2021, the organization launched a nine-month apprenticeship to train a student from a group historically underrepresented in the industry in all aspects of publishing. One Story is now 22 years old.
