The optimal quest guide is a good guide to show what quests you should work towards. But you don't just follow an optimal playing guide on your first playthrough. Experience things for yourself, discover what you enjoy etc. Quests can be a distraction and fun break, they don't have to be grinded out.
Try downloading the Quest Helper plugin. It is the best way to start for sure. has anyone followed this extremely popular guide that everyone recommends to new players? Doubt it. I did it, although I often switched up content and got overleveled in a few skills, but generally really liked the guidance.

The optimal quest guide is ordered in a way that maximizes the experience rewards you get from quests to minimize how much training is required to meet the level requirements of quests. Well for one thing, the rune plate armor isn't such an important thing.
