Origins and early history. The earliest recorded ancestor of the Al Saud was Mani' ibn Rabiah Al-Muraydi, who settled in Diriyah in 1446–1447 with his clan, the Mrudah. [13] . The Mrudah are believed to be descended from the Banu Hanifa branch of the larger Rabi'ah tribal confederation [13] [clarification needed].
The Al Saud family traces its roots back to the central region of the Arabian Peninsula, where its members were part of the tribe known as the Banu Saud. In the late 18th century, a man named Muhammad ibn Saud formed an alliance with a religious leader named Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, which led to the creation of the First Saudi State.
