I thought I saw somewhere that marks of grace drop ~15 an hour, but I’ve gotten 28 in the last hour and 10 minutes or so of doing the Canifis course. Does that sound about right or am I just getting pretty lucky for once?
By doing this method tanks your xp/hr, and you should do this for marks exclusively, not to balance both. As most of you know, marks of grace spawn based on the amount of time you spend on the course.
Marks of Grace spawning mechanics. Discussion. There is a cooldown after the spawn of the mark, which prevents more marks from spawning. The cooldown is randomized between 2 to 5 (or 6?) minutes. You need to successfully receive xp at the last obstacle of the course AFTER the cooldown ended in order to receive the mark in the next lap.

Marks can be traded in at a rate of 10 marks of grace per amylase pack, which contains 100 amylase crystals. This effectively means one mark is worth 10 crystals; worth 14,890 per mark.
Chances of obtaining marks of grace are reduced to 20% of the normal rate if the players' Agility level is 20 levels higher than the course requirement. The chance reduction is not incremental; as long as the player's Agility level is not 20 levels or more higher than the requirement, the chances are not reduced [2] .
