Worksheets. Math. Grade 5. Algebra vocabulary. Variables, constants, expressions & equations. In math, a variable is a symbol (e.g. " x ") which represents a quantity that may change. A constant is a fixed number. The first worksheet emphasizes the difference between variables and constants.
Symbol and Cue Cards. Create a set of symbol cards and matching cue cards as shown on the following pages. Symbol cards: Cards containing math terms, expressions, equations, etc. Cue cards: Cards containing phrases that match one or more of the symbol cards.

An input-output rule is a rule that takes an allowable input and uses it to determine an output. For example, the following diagram represents the rule that takes any number as an input, then adds 1, multiplies by 4, and gives the resulting number as an output.
