The Assessment Anchors are one of the many tools the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has developed to better align curriculum, instruction and assessment practices throughout the state. PDE first released the Assessment Anchors for Mathematics and Reading in 2004.
The Assessment Anchors are organized into four classifications, as listed below. A = Numbers and Operations o C = Geometry. out the grade levels. In addition to these classifications, there are five Reporting Categories.
Alternate Eligible Content was developed to reflect modified targets for PA Core/Academic Standards in ELA, Math, and Science and are maintained on this site for historical purposes only*. Currently, PASA DLM Essential Elements (EE) are to be utilized for instruction and assessment.

As instruction segues from the PA Academic Standards to the PA Common Core Standards, it is important to understand the need to prepare students for the current and upcoming PA CC-aligned PSSAs and to consider not only the content but the degree of rigor embraced by the new standards.
