To become a licensed psychologist with the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology, you must earn a doctorate degree. That degree can be either a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) or a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD).
The act authorizes the Board to license psychologists and to regulate the practice of psychology in this Commonwealth.

Pennsylvania psychologists are licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology (http://www.dos.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/state_board_of_psychology/12521). Licensure is based on completing a doctoral degree in psychology, passing national and state examinations, and fulfilling a postdoctoral practice requirement.
To meet the education requirements for licensure under section 6 of the act (63 P.S. § 1206), an applicant shall complete the requirements for a doctoral degree in psychology or a field related to psychology as defined in § 41.1 (relating to definitions).
