The Kentucky River Palisades are a series of steep, scenic gorges and limestone outcroppings that stretch for approximately 100 mi (160 km), along the Kentucky River in central Kentucky in the United States.
Features - 220-foot limestone palisade walls, rare plants, Kentucky River. Hiking - Foot trail through the forest and to the river, two-mile loop; moderately difficult, with hills and steps. Hazards - Extremely high cliffs. Access: From Nicholasville, follow Rt. 27 south for approximately nine miles.
There are a few loop options available, but the only one that offers views of the river is the Palisades Loop. The trail is well-marked and boasts stunning views. There are also a few lookout points along the way.
Where the Kentucky river cuts through the thick limestone and dolomite of the High Bridge Group (north of the Kentucky River and Lexington fault systems), a very scenic cliff-lined gorge known as the Kentucky River Palisades was formed.
