I do feel that referring to ParaGard as "hormone free" is misleading! PMDD is caused by a change on progesterone according to one study I've read, and I believe that's why I developed PMDD while I had the IUD inserted.

There was a post on here about a year ago by u/konkeydong7 regarding Paragard and I wanted to add mine/have an open discussion. (Comments are disabled on the OG post). I got my Paragard in 2019 because 1) emergency contraception and 2) it was the only birth control that didn’t interact with my psych meds.

I had a friend get pregnant on a Paragard. She did go full term with her pregnancy and the baby was healthy but she did have a hard pregnancy. The IUD was not able to be removed safely so it stayed in durning the pregnancy.
