When I got this IUD, I couldn't find many negative reviews that seemed credible; most people were just complaining about the pain and bleeding during the first 3 months. I hope this can provide a little more clarity to those looking for a more detailed experience.
I had a Paragard for 10 years in my 20s and early 30s and had no problems other than maybe slightly heavier menstrual cramps. Then I had a Mirena and loved having NO periods! This time around, though, I'm getting another Paragard because I want to avoid messing around with my hormones.
I highly recommend at least trying the Paragard before you overlook it because of the bad reviews, especially if hormonal birth control hasn’t worked for you. Just wanted to share my positive experience and encourage others to consider it a viable, reasonable option for contraceptives.
They put the Paragard in anyway, and I ended up having almost constant contractions. They did an ultrasound after a few months of pain and said that the placement of the IUD was perfect and that the pain I was experiencing was probably from undiagnosed endometriosis.

I'm 4 years out on my Paragard. I love it so much! My insertion was unpleasant physically but totally manageable. Once this puppy runs out in 2021 I'm either going to get a sterilization procedure done or simply get another IUD, as I will not be having children.
