Paatal Lok is the first show in a long while that I really felt like had a bunch of merit as something more than just quick cop/murder entertainment. Without spoiling anything, the show revolves around a failed assasination attempt on a high profile journalist, and a jaded / worn down cop investigating it and unravelling more and more layers ...
While much has written about excellent performances in this series, my aim through this post is to appreciate how real it seems when you start relating it with the news we read about every day from gang-rapes of young dalit women to arrest of gullible criminals.
Paatal lok is the best one I've seen in recent Indian web series without any celebrated actors. It's also interesting because it is close to reality and has this indie feel to it. Mirzapur 2 was gritty and raw but a lot of loose ends and flaws in the script.
