Pawling is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States. Its population was 8,012 at the 2020 census. The town is named after Catherine Pauling, the daughter of Henry Beekman, who held the second largest land patent in the county. The town is in the southeastern part of the county, and contains a village of the same name.

Historical Archives - Pawling, NY. Pawling’s history is much older than many realize. While we have no evidence of permanent settlements, we do know of two Native American burial grounds within the town. The many stone tools found in the town prove a significant presence.
19 Δεκ 2012 · On December 31, 1848, the New York and Harlem Railroad reached Pawling. The area rapidly transformed from a quiet religious community into a hot spot for wealthy vacationers from the city.
Today, the John Kane House is the Historical Society's main museum. On the first floor: - Learn about the area's indigenous and European settlers. - The Anti-Rent Rebellion. - Washington's use of Pawling; and the effect of the Revolutionary War upon the community.
The John Kane House, a registered historic place, is situated in the village. The village was portrayed as the fictional town of Denning, New York, in the TV series Elementary. The village of Pawling is centrally located in the town of Pawling by the junction of Routes 22 and 55.
