3 Σεπ 2019 · While the PDS forms a cornerstone of government food and nutrition policy, India continues to be home to a large population of hungry and malnourished people. This review seeks to explore the functioning and efficiency of the PDS in achieving food and nutritional security in India.
The targeted public distribution system (TPDS) of India—world's largest food safety-net program—has a reputation for poor targeting, rampant corruption and low impact. Five states of India modified TPDS by reducing targeting, lowering grain prices to Rs.1–3 per kg and tightening its administration.
The research paper titled “ENSURING FOOD SECURITY THROUGH REVAMPED PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM” analyses the role of PDS acting as a tool to ensure the nutritional needs of India. It briefly analyses the different stages of PDS and its gradual development in the country.
