All registered doctors and dental surgeons shall, in all areas of their professional conduct, practice and comportment, in professional and other relationships with their patients and other persons, be guided and bound by the rules contained in these codes.
This study is about the level of knowledge of medical practitioners in Nigeria on the principles of Public health ethics and the existence of national code of health research ethics in Nigeria. It is a cross-sectional questionnaire-based study in which 158 medical doctors were involved.

This paper attempts a synopsis of the basic principles of medical ethics, identifies some ethical dilemmas that doctors often encounter and discusses some strategies to address them as well as emphasizes the need for enhanced ethics education both for physicians and patients particularly in Nigeria.
