Can you play the scale up and down, with your eyes closed?

  3. You can do this with one hand at a time, both hands, contrary motion, & arpeggios. Start out with just finger 2 from each hand and then mix it up, asking for more and more obscure and odd combinations. “Use finger 5 from your left hand and finger 3 from your right hand to play the B major scale.”

  4. When practicing scales with both hands keep an interval of an octave between the left and right hand and although the bellow exercise has only a 2 octave span you can expand it to 3 and even 4 octaves.

  5. Try doing one octave of contrary motion with both hands. For example, for the C scale, you will begin both of the thumbs on middle C. Then use finger numbers 2 – 3 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5. Your hands will move away from each other and end on bass C and treble C.
