Podocarpus nagi, commonly known as Nagi Podocarpus or Yellowwood, is an evergreen tree that belongs to the family Podocarpaceae. Nageia nagi is a great tree to use in bonsai, due to its moderate growth rate and ability to withstand different growing conditions. It can tolerate a variety of light and temperatures, yet still needs regular pruning.
Male flowers in axillary, cylindrical, sometimes branched spikes 1⁄2 to 1 in. long, 1⁄6 in. wide. Females solitary or in pairs, developing a globose fruit about 1⁄2 in. wide, covered with plum-like bloom. Native of Southern Japan, Formosa, and China; introduced by Siebold to Ghent in 1830.
