A guide that explains the basics of EVs, how they influence stats, and the steps one needs to take in order to effectively EV Train.
The fifth generation EV system certainly brought some interesting new tools to ease the odious task of EV training, but let's first revisit the basics of EV training. How EVs Work. Effort Values, or EVs for short, allow you to further build upon your Pokémon's base stats.
EV stands for “Effort Value.” They determine what stats your Pokémon gets upon levelling up and are gained from battling any Pokémon you come across that award Experience points. For example; Beating a Patrat would give all Pokémon that participated in the battle +1 Effort Value to Attack.
This page lists every pokemon, with the Effort Points (EVs) they provide in each stat. Check the main EVs page for more details on how they work.
In this section you will find a detailed guide to Effort Values and how they will make your Pokémon stronger. What are Effort Values? As Pokémon battle, in addition to gaining experience points they also obtain Effort Values (usually referred to as EVs), which are special hidden values in each stat (HP, Attack and so on).
To train in the lab you need to get the EV training cards from Chrisola Hotel first. They are 10 AP each and there are 6 in total (one for each stat). I personally get the speed card first, then go for special attack and attack, then HP and after that the defense cards, but that‘s just personal preference.
