Any battle in which you would gain experience, a rival battle, the elite 4, a gym leader rematch, a legendary capture event at Ramanas park, all of those would use up your focus sash if your Pokémon was to take a potential 1 shot from full health.
I've run some calculation, finding out that: Having 1 to 3 IV on speed is the same as 0 on Dusknoir at level 50 (which is 45) Having 15 IVs on it only raises this number up to 51. Maybe I'm thinking waaaay too hard about it.
In trainer battles and Battle Tower these items won’t disappear. Focus Sash in the wild will break and disappear meaning you need to grind another one.
