  1. PROCEDURE: Polyvinyl Alcohol Slime. Materials needed: paper cup, 5 oz stirring rod Polyvinyl alcohol, 4% solution in water. (See “Preparation of Solutions” at the end of this investigation.) Borax (sodium tetraborate decahydrate), Na2B4O7 10H20, 4% solution, weight in water.

  2. A solution of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) can be made into a slime by adding borax solution, which creates cross-links between polymer chains. This experiment is easy to set up, providing the chemicals are available, and should take no more than about 30 minutes. It can be done by students in groups of two or three.

  3. Materials for making PVA slime: To make PVA slime you need PVA, Borax and water. The best grades of PVA for slime are PVOH4988 and PVOH2588. Both grades of PVA and Borax are available at ChemicalStore for professional users.

  4. How to Make Super Slime. Pour ½ cup of the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution into a beaker, jar, or bowl. If you want colored slime, add food coloring to the PVA solution and stir with a stir stick. Add 2 teaspoons of the Sodium Tetraborate (Borax) Solution into the PVA solution and stir slowly.

  5. Procedure: 1. Measure 2 tsp. of polyvinyl alcohol polymer solution into a cup. 2. Add 1/4 teaspoon of Borax solution. Mix well with a wooden stick. 3. Touch and try to pour the product. How does it feel? Can it be poured? 4. Working on waxed paper, roll the "slime" into a ball and try to bounce it. Does it bounce?

  6. Heat 1 liter of tap water to 88–90 °C (194 °F) or just under the boiling point of water. Once the water is heated, lightly sprinkle the polyvinyl alcohol into the water while stirring continuously (a magnetic stirrer/hot plate works well to heat and stir the solution).

  7. 22 Απρ 2024 · Dissolve 1 g of borax in 25 ml of water. Simultaneously, prepare another solution of 4 g of PVA in 100 ml of water. To achieve complete dissolution, it is convenient to gently warm the mixture at a temperature not exceeding 50 ºC.
