I'd vote for a Porsche 6 air cooled motor, which makes a great street car and driver, but not sure you could do it for $5K. Another option that no one has mentioned is converting over to water but putting in a boxster motor and transmission.

2 Νοε 2013 · If it has a 2.0 it was swapped from a later car and the heads, if not cracked, are pretty valuable. If the transaxle is a 'rear shift' it's the early type which no one really wants, if it's a 'side shift' again they are pretty valuable.
