9 Φεβ 2024 · Surgery can affect parts of your mouth and throat, which could make swallowing harder. Some chemotherapy medicines can cause sores in your mouth and throat. This can make swallowing painful.
After treatment, your mouth or throat may become dry and sore, and your voice may become hoarse. Radiation therapy can cause your salivary glands to make less saliva, which can contribute to a dry mouth (xerostomia). These effects will gradually get better after treatment finishes, but it may take several weeks or even months.

The main side effects from head and neck radiotherapy include mouth problems, problems with your teeth, weight loss, difficulty swallowing, changes to your voice and swelling in your neck and face (lymphoedema).
Side effects usually begin after about 2 weeks of radiotherapy. They continue to develop for up to 2 weeks after treatment ends, before slowly improving. Most people notice an improvement 6 to 8 weeks after radiotherapy has finished.
